FLYSLOT LeMANS CLASSIC

NORTH AMERICA 2015 NATIONAL FINAL RESULTS

The 2015 Flyslot LeMans Classic North America Championships were run this past Saturday June 13, 2015. 22 racers who either advanced from prior qualifying races this season, or had prior championship exemptions, participated in the championship race at Great Traditions in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

As part of their entry fee, drivers received handout Quick Slicks silicone tires , and a hand out Piranah 21.5k motor, both which they kept. The motors were pre-tested to be within a 2% RPM and torque variance.

After cars passed tech inspection, drivers were given 5 laps to get a feel for their cars with the new motors and tires, and to make one final adjustment. Each driver then ran 10 laps, with their best lap time during that period used to determine the starting lineup order. Those with best lap times were grouped in the middle of the lineup, those with the highest lap times were placed at the extremes of the lineup. In this way, those with the lowest lap times ran together in the round robin format.

Top qualifier was Dan McCollum, with a 6.843 best lap time, followed by Robert Holt with 6.890, 10 year old Josh Hans with 6.957, and Bob Kuss with 6.975.

Race format was round robin, 10 minute segments on each of the 4 lanes. The first to complete their 4 segments ws Al Hernandez, taking the early lead with 280 laps. Jay McKinnon of Maryland then topped that with 308 laps. As racers rotated in, the lap totals climbed. Bob Kuss recorded the first 80 lap run on the outer gutter red lane, and finished with 323 laps to move into the lead.

Next up were Robert Holt and Dan McCollum. Racing was close with Holt and McCollum both running 83 laps on the middle yellow and blue lanes. Holt managed to get an extra lap on the 2 gutter lanes which made the difference.  Results are below:
